2019 Bourgogne Marchand Tawse Cote d'Or
Mark Tawse: We love the vintage!, Another year, each since 2015 with a world of surprises – but fortunately good surprises mainly. The gap between bud-break and flowering was the longest I’ve ever seen – it was because of the cold spring that we had to wait to harvest. The nights were cool too so we didn’t start until September 13th which is amazing given the heat of the summer. We really had to harvest quickly though – alcohols were quite well under control, just a few things were higher. All our ferments went through much more easily and the management of the wines was also easier than in 2018 as there was no excess of volume. The domaine wines from Gevrey are all AB (organic) in 2019 but the yields down on 2018 – maybe 10-15% – and the volumes are similar in 2020. I think that we have really consistent quality, but also with lower yields.
