2019 Guido Porro Barolo Lazzairasco
Quantity:
96 Points - James Suckling: This is a superb wine, tasted immediately after the more precocious, younger-vine, redder-fruited S. Caterina. Full-bodied as any Barolo is, but savory, taut and detailed, which only the best examples are. Extreme focus on pithy, beautifully shaped chamois tannins. Darker cherry, thyme, leather, tapenade and forestry notes of spruce, as well as more exotic hints of sandalwood, with a campfire allure lingering long. This is an excellent showing. Succulent, sure. A bit of guilt if opening now, yes. But this is hard not to guzzle and with a stiff decant there is plenty to love. Best after 2028.
